StanleyBet donation helps Italian earthquake victims

Leading British online gambling company StanleyBet International has donated over €1.3 million to the earthquake damaged region of Abruzzo in Italy to aid in the construction of a new school for the village of Arsita.

The highest contribution to the region by a foreign company, the funds have been earmarked to reopen a primary school destroyed by the worst Italian earthquake in 30 years. The new online casino facility will house 90 pupils over thirteen classrooms and is scheduled to open in time for the start of term in 2010.

“We have very close links in Italy as well as employing a significant number of Italian nationals within our internet gambling business,” said John Whittaker, Managing Director for StanleyBet.

“After such a tragic event, we felt it was incumbent on us to help in any way we could and as a result we decided to fund the rebuilding of the school in Arsita.”

“We are very grateful to StanleyBet for its generous contribution and making the new school a reality,” said Enzo Lucci, Mayor for Arsita.

“It means that our children will now have a building in which to learn.”
